Get involved to Save Chicago Libraries

Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed and the City Council passed a 2012 budget that will force every branch library to close two half-days a week, nine months a year, and reduce the quantity, quality and efficiency of library programs and services by laying off nearly 200 employees.

These irresponsible cuts to library hours, programs and jobs come less than two years after Mayor Daley also reduced hours and laid off employees. This despite the public outcry of thousands of supporters -- from noted Chicago authors to parents, students, seniors and more.

We can't allow libraries to bear the brunt of budget cuts, especially as the city is spending millions on tax giveaways to big corporations.
